So, what's a marathon swimmer? For starters, it means I spend a lot of time in the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean. I train to swim long open-water distances without a wetsuit, following the rules established by the Marathon Swimming Federation (MSF). I was drawn to the sport after I came to terms with the fact that I'll never turn into a seal or an
orca whale.
I began my open water journey by participating in several 5 and 10K swims, and shorter swims near NYC landmarks, including around the Statue of Liberty and under the Brooklyn Bridge. I'm also an annual stage participant and volunteer in the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim, a 7-day 120 mile swim down the Hudson River.
In 2016, I swam New York Open Water's first Ederle-Burke Swim, an 18-mile swim from the Battery to my hometown, Sandy Hook, NJ.
In 2017, I completed 20 Bridges, a 28.5-mile circumnavigation of Manhattan.
I'm currently plotting my next aquatic adventure.
